Sisserou And The Secret Flower

About the Book
*Winner of UNESCO Creative Caribbean Grant*
Deep within the emerald heart of Dominica’s rainforest, a secret waits to be discovered. Drawn by whispers of mystery and the echoes of his ancestors, a young Kalinago boy named Sisserou embarks on a perilous journey through the shadows of pain into the radiant light of wisdom.
The Secret Flower is more than a tale of adventure, it is a meditation on transformation, love, and the quiet courage that carries us forward. Woven through its pages are the unseen threads that bind us to spirit, to nature, and to one another.
It reminds us that the truest magic does not come from power, but from our living connection to the majesty of life.
About the making of this book:
This book won a grant from UNESCO, Creative Caribbean, The University Of The West Indies, CARICOM, BOCAS Lit Festival with the financial contribution of the European Union and the support of organisations of The ACP States
The project's initiative focuses on ethnographic research of Caribbean Indigenous communities. Its goal was to document traditional stories, legends, mythology and cultural dynamics transforming them into beautifully crafted books that preserve and celebrate Indigenous wisdom.
This book explores the indigenous stories of the Kalinago Community in Dominica. The research was hosted and facilitated by Chief Annette Sanford under her not-for-profit organization, Kibe' Kuati.
The books are self-published and made available for worldwide shipping. 50% of royalties are then directed back to the Indigenous community as a means of providing a low-maintenance, self-sustainable source of income.
